How to Take Ferret Pictures

Want to take some great ferret pictures? You may be wondering how on earth to get your ferrets to keep still long enough to say 'boo' let alone getting them to pose for a picture! The trick to getting good pictures is to be quick as lightning, maybe even faster!

You don't have to be an expert wildlife photographer to take some nice ferret pictures but you will need a camera that can take many pictures one after the other in split second. A little luck won't hurt either!

What Do You Need to Take Ferret Pictures?

The first thing you need to take ferret pictures is a camera. A digital camera is a good choice. This way you can just delete the ones you don't want (there are bound to be quite a few). If you can get one with an LCD display so you aren't slowed down by having to look through the viewfinder, so much the better.

Choose a model with the highest resolution you can afford. Choose a high quality setting when you take your ferret pictures. This enables you to crop out any background you don't want and makes the picture much larger. If you can find one with a 'close up' feature it is ideal.

Next you will need a tripod. You will be using this most of the time for your ferret pictures. Using a tripod you can focus your camera ahead of time and keep your camera steady. Your hands are now free to pose your ferret (if possible!) and use one hand to press the button.

You may need to use a flash for some of your ferret pictures. You probably need to experiment a bit to get your lighting just right. If the room is very light you can probably turn the flash off but it's useful for darker times. Try taking a picture of the background first to see what adjustments need to be made. You may even want to use an external flash.

Should you use props? You may get better pictures if you use a few background props for your ferret pictures. If you are photographing with a theme like birthdays or Christmas you can use cardboard with the appropriate background pinned onto it. You might have to attract their attention with toys to keep them there though! Keeping the items new and unknown will keep them in the vicinity longer.

Ok, you have your pictures, now what? Invest in a photo editing program like Paint Shop Pro 7. Choose your best pictures and edit out any unwanted information. You may want to brighten, darken or change the contrast of your ferret pictures but the better your pictures are the less you need to edit them.

Did I mention the ferret? You will need an adorable, playful ferret for your ferret pictures too! Good luck getting him to sit still!
